FANNY CROSBY: The Light of Christ
Fanny Crosby, despite the tragic loss of her sight, would embrace Christ at an early age. Her mother, a sincere Christian, took Fanny on long walks describing the woods and wildlife and spent evenings reading poetry and the Bible to her blind daughter. Fanny’s voracious appetite to learn led her to attend the New York Institute for the Blind; where she served as a teacher after her graduation. Her love of poetry led her to pen over 8,000 Christian hymns filled with theological depth coming from her intimate love of the Lord Jesus Christ. In John 12:46, Jesus said, “I have come as light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness.” Fanny
Crosby, though blind, became an inspiration to millions around the world;
finding joy beyond tragedy in the light of Jesus Christ. As she wrote in one
of her hymns, “There is constant joy abiding, in Christ my Lord and
King; of His love that passeth knowledge, My heart and tongue shall sing.”
